I think Italy deserved the win but am very upset with Zidane’s career ending play. I mean, what was he thinking? I expected so much more from him. I almost want to cry. Not only am I mourning his departure from professional soccer, I’m mourning the circumstances that surrounded his expulsion from the field.
Yes, Zizou should have kept his cool but that was awfully dirty of Matarezzi to provoke him like that. The Italians play dirty and are drama queens, but verbal abuse (some say Matarezzi called him a “dirty terrorist”) – that’s just wrong.
Both parties are at fault in this case. I wish it never happened.
**Update: Apparently Zidane is holding a press conference at the end of this week to reveal what actually happened.**
